International

Krupa has almost 10 years FTE experience in development-oriented projects, programs, policies, evaluation research and knowledge utilization - in Sub-Saharan Africa (primarily Zambia) and with several in Ukraine.  Selected projects:

Zambia (mainly as a volunteer):

  1. Preventing and addressing violence against pregnant women and girls in impoverished communities.   Demonstrated proof-of-concept in Lusaka communities, in collaboration with government and NGOs, and funded by Grand Challenges Canada. Scaling-up in Southern Province.
  2. Introducing digital devices to improve health services in Zambia's rural and remote communities. Focus on infectious diseases and maternal, child health. Funded by Grand Challenges Canada. Now scaling up throughout Zambia.
  3. Introducing and improving tablet-based learning - Developing evaluation framework, formative and outcome evaluation. Mwabu tablets include the entire primary school curriculum, with animation and sound - in all official languages. See iSchool.zm
  4. Establishing community Safe Motherhood Action Groups (SMAG) to prevent mothers' death in childbirth in Western Province. In collaboration with the traditional government and funded by diverse donors.
  5. Linking Canadian and Zambian universities - Simon Fraser U, UofAlberta, Uof British Columbia.
  6. Low-cost high-impact community-driven sustainable health initiatives (LoHiCdSHI) - Addressing social determinants of health while addressing specific issues with impoverished communities in Western Province and Lusaka. Funded by diverse donors.
  7. Linking Canadian Indigenous Health Researchers with those in the Global South. Joining colleagues in northern Canada with those in Zambia to share methodologies to address some very complex challenges in both contexts.

Ukraine (as volunteer):

  1. Improving country-level food security through promoting and growing registered potato seed (design phase, 2024- )

  2. Improving food security for communities in conflict zones through delivery of fresh-based bread (implemented 2025- )

  3. Linking engineers to design . . . 

    1. stronger paved roads (design 2024)

    2. small-scale renewable power systems (design 2025) and

    3. modular homes (design 2025)

  4. Supporting recovery from war trauma (design 2025)

  5. Prevention initiatives with urban youth (1999)
